March 20th, 2026
On March 19th, 2026, Larry Sharpe, a well-known Libertarian podcaster and commentator, and current gubernatorial candidate for the Libertarian Party in New York; invited Independence Party candidates Andrew Cottingham and Alejandro Cabrera on to his platform.
In what would normally be an episode of Libertarians Drinking Coffee LIVE, Sharpe decided to start expanding his platform by inviting independent guests on, which is why episode #140 is titled Independents Drinking Coffee LIVE. Sharpe recognizes the importance of both recognizing independent and third-party candidates, and giving them a platform to speak on during the 2026 election cycle.
As dissatisfaction with the current two-party system continues to grow, so does the potential within the independent and third-party movement. Sharpe, Cottingham, Cabrera, and many other nonpartisan candidates across the United States recognize this critical moment in American politics. They are actively taking the opportunity this election cycle to build a long-lasting movement, and to make an impact far beyond themselves.
During their hour long discussion, both candidates answered questions regarding their campaigns, their races, and their involvement within the independent/third-party movement. Both candidates also asked Sharpe several questions as well. The overall question? Why must independents be different, and how can they be different?
Several topics discussed include:
- Why run for office?
- Why run as an independent or under a third-party?
- Why do you think independent and third-party
movements have been unsuccessful so far? - What does your race look like for you?
- Who are your opponents?
- What are your policies, positions, and principles?
- What does victory look like to you?
